The famous Kannada Actress Ranya Rao was arrested in the case of 14.8 Kg gold smuggling worth Rs. 12 crore at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on 3rd March 2025.
Ranya was under the doubt after her three back-to-back trips to Dubai. Then she was under the eyes of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) after her fourth trip to Dubai in just 15 days. The DRI arrested Ranya at the Bengaluru airport, when she came back from Dubai, as she had done on her normal trip on 3rd March.
She was charged for smuggling 14.8 Kg Gold from Dubai to India worth Rs. 12 crores. After checking, she got caught with gold bars in her jacket. Investigators revealed that she used her strong connection to pass all the checkpoints and customs checks. All the gold was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, of 1962.
For more investigation, the Police followed her residence, where she lived with her husband Jatin Hukkeri, located at Lavelle Road, Bengaluru. The Police seized gold jewelry worth Rs. 2.6 crore.
She was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act 1962 and remanded to judicial custody.
Now, Officers are figuring out whether Ranya Rao is operating alone or if she was just a part of a big trap of gold smugglers for Dubai and India.
